Growing up with a strong sense of duty and a love for the outdoors, Nick naturally gravitated toward service. He joined the Army and spent eight years as both a Military Police officer and a Field Artillery specialist, dedicating himself to protecting and supporting his fellow soldiers. After leaving the military, he explored a different path, spending nearly two decades as a trusted sales representative for Schwan’s Home Service, followed by a year at Swisher Sweet Cigar Company.
Even when he’s off the clock, Nick’s passion for an active life is evident. He can be found on local lakes and streams enjoying his favorite fishing spots, or in the fields during hunting season. Baseball and football hold a special place in his heart, and he never misses the chance to watch or play a game. At the end of the day, his greatest joy is sharing these hobbies with his wife and their four children, creating memories that go well beyond his professional achievements.

Eric Stallo

Having served in the Army National Guard for over three decades, Eric Stallo’s life has been characterized by dedication and discipline. Rising to the rank of Sergeant Major, he led with integrity and guided fellow Guardsmen through challenges big and small. After retiring, Eric turned his focus to his Missouri farm, where he manages a 130-head cow/calf operation. Surrounded by rolling pastures and open skies, he applies the same work ethic and devotion that once defined his military career.
In his rare moments of downtime, Eric indulges in his lifelong passion for hunting. Whether it’s tracking game through the fields or taking a quiet moment of reflection at sunrise, he finds balance and peace in the great outdoors—a harmony he has been fortunate to carry from his days in uniform to life on the farm.

John’s journey began in 1982, when he donned the uniform of the United States Marine Corps as a Corrections Specialist at Camp Pendleton. There, he honed his discipline and marksmanship, earning recognition on the Base Brig rifle and pistol teams. Eager to expand his horizons, John reenlisted in 1986 and became a Marine Corps Cross Country Prisoner Escort, traveling far and wide to safely transport over 200 prisoners, absentees, and detainees.
After returning to civilian life, John’s devotion to public service drew him to law enforcement. For 22 years, he worked with the Marceline Police Department, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant. Along the way, he served as a D.A.R.E. Officer, AmTrak drug interdiction officer, and a radar and firearms instructor. Although he briefly stepped away, John went back into law enforcement in 2015 as a deputy sheriff before finally retiring in 2023.
In early 2024, John joined Brookside Veterans Services, assisting a large number of law enforcement officers and first responders with their VA disability claim needs. He also serves on the Illinois State Police Members Services Board, where he advocates for veteran support. Specializing in mental health C&P prep, John finds immense satisfaction in guiding fellow veterans through the intricate claims process and ensuring they receive the help they deserve.
When not working, John is a dedicated competitive shooter with a history of competing at the Bianchi Cup. He also enjoys hunting and fishing, proudly displaying his collection of wildlife mounts at home. In the warmer months, John can be found cruising through Missouri in one of his classic hot rods, savoring every moment spent with his sons and the open road.

Kevin Brandt proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of E-5 before transitioning into the aviation field. With a strong foundation in discipline and teamwork from his military service, he now applies those values to his professional life, ensuring safety and excellence in his day-to-day operations.
Outside of work, Kevin is happiest in the great outdoors. He loves hunting, fishing, and exploring remote hiking trails—a passion that not only keeps him active but also fuels his appreciation for nature’s beauty.

With a 12-year military career spanning both the Marine Corps and the National Guard, Michael Irey has devoted much of his life to serving his country. Following his time in uniform, he worked in law enforcement for about 14 years before moving on to various investigative roles within the State of Missouri. After experiencing firsthand the support from Brookside in securing his own benefits, Michael discovered a calling in helping other veterans receive what they deserve.
Outside of his professional roles, Michael enjoys traveling with his wife, spending quality time with his children, attending country music concerts, and catching the latest sporting events. Passionate about hearing every veteran’s story, he stands ready to guide and support those seeking assistance with their claims.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Laughlin has devoted himself to education, a commitment that now finds him serving as a middle school principal at a private Christian school. Drawing inspiration from his father—a Military Veteran he deeply admires—David decided to dedicate part of his time this year to supporting veterans. Through this meaningful work, he seeks to extend the same service and compassion that his father received.
Outside his professional life, David cherishes his role as a husband and father, staying closely involved in his church community. Whether guiding students, raising his own children, or helping veterans navigate available resources, Dr. Laughlin strives to honor his faith and family values in all he does.

From the moment he joined the Marine Corps as a 0341 81mm Mortarman, Phillip Beckmann lived the reality of intense camaraderie and high-stakes missions. The physicality and precision required for this specialized role taught him the value of teamwork and discipline. After serving his time in the Marines, Phillip returned to civilian life, but he carried with him a deep appreciation for the bonds formed in uniform.
Away from his professional pursuits, Phillip enjoys life’s simpler pleasures, often unwinding with a fine bourbon in one hand and a smooth cigar in the other. Whether he’s swapping stories with friends or taking a moment alone to reflect on the day’s events, those quiet rituals remind him of his journey from the Marine Corps to the rolling landscapes of Illinois—a place he’s proud to call home.

William Rambo III

Initially serving as a 19K Tank Crew Member and eventually becoming a Tank Commander on active duty, William Michael Rambo III knows what it takes to operate in high-pressure environments. Today, he continues his service as a 68W20 Combat Medic Specialist for the Army Reserves, ensuring that soldiers receive essential care when they need it most. Outside of the military sphere, William also has experience in higher education at Central Methodist University in central Missouri, and he currently works as a Special Education Teacher in El Paso, Texas.
A devoted father, William spends every spare moment with his two sons—ages 12 and 4—playing outside, going camping, or traveling back to Missouri to visit family. When he’s not on the move, he likes to unwind by cleaning and playing video games like Resident Evil, satisfying his inner zombie hunter. A lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan since 1989, William brings that same team spirit and commitment to every aspect of his life.

After a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy, where he rose to the rank of Command Senior Chief, Zach Misner now serves as the Service Desk & Systems Monitoring Deputy for Joint Operational Medicine Information Systems. In that role he helps lead the multi‑platform effort to modernize the Department of Defense electronic health‑record system—bringing five new software solutions online to keep America’s war‑fighters ready and resilient. Determined to keep giving back, Zach also launched both a Veteran Resource Group and a SkillBridge internship program at his current workplace so fellow service members can transition smoothly into civilian tech careers.
Service doesn’t end at the office. Zach’s two young children attend a Christian collaborative school, where he heads the Dads of Great Students (D.O.G.S.) program, adding an extra layer of campus security alongside the School Resource Officer. When he isn’t coaching his son’s 6U baseball team or cheering on his daughter’s theater and ballet performances, you’ll find Zach “training for life” through CrossFit, power‑lifting, and strongman events.
